Creative Ways to Express Love and Appreciation to Your Husband

Father's Day is June 18
by Kerry Clarensau

God knows our husband hungers for sincere admiration and respect, so He instructs us to meet that need. We have the privilege of communicating love to our husband on the deepest level.

Say it . . .

  • Send him a "love" e-mail or text message.
  • Talk about how much you appreciate him in front of your family.
  • Write a love note and put it in his wallet or sock drawer, or on his mirror, car dashboard, coffee maker, or pillow.
  • Send him a card and enclose a picture of the two of you; share with him a special memory from when the picture was taken.
  • Ask your school-age children to make a card that starts, "Something I love about my dad . . .
  • Keep a journal of the things you appreciate about him on his dresser. When you add a new entry, leave the journal open so he can read it.

Plan it . . .

  • Plan a surprise outing to his favorite sporting event
  • Ask him to lunch and share your appreciation for him during the meal.
  • Plan a romantic evening after the kids are in bed-or better yet, get a babysitter so the two of you can spend an entire evening together.
  • Plan a nature walk or neighborhood walk for just the two of you, and express how much you appreciate and respect him.
  • Invite him for a picnic lunch at a favorite nature spot.
  • Plan a day at a lake where you can fish, canoe, or read a book together.

Show it . . .

  • Give him a back rub and tell him how much you love him.
  • Allow him to watch a game or favorite television show without interruptions.
  • Make his favorite meal and use the time together to encourage him.
  • Sing a special love song to him or play it from a device.
  • Decorate and frame a list of his strengths using scrapbook materials and masculine colors.
  • Bring him breakfast in bed on his day off.
  • Buy him a gift that represents one of his strengths, and write your appreciation for this strength in a card to give with the gift.
