CompaCare: Ministering to the Vulnerable
by Ashley Grant, M.A., Compact Family Services
CompACT Family Services, part of Assemblies of God Family Services Agency, is excited to announce the launch of its new product, CompaCareSM.
CompaCareSM is a compassionate care model which provides churches the framework, structure, and support to minister to vulnerable children and families within their congregation. This model of ministry is applicable to churches of all sizes and genetic make ups with the purpose of equipping God’s people to serve.
A clear move of the Holy Spirit is compelling individuals and churches to join in the combat of the breakdown of the family by becoming involved in foster care. Yet as the government tries to fill this role, one that is a biblical responsibility of the church, foster families are often left feeling isolated and devoid of emotional support.
By uniting congregations to wrap around vulnerable families according to their unique gifts, churches truly become the picture of ministry described by Paul in Ephesians 4:11-15. CompaCareSM, well researched and evidence-based, is an approach that raises the success rate of foster placements and foster families from as low as 37 percent to 95 percent in a recent study of over 1,000 foster families. By mobilizing the church and equipping and uniting its people, the body of Christ can revolutionize the face of foster care.
Similarly, many other vulnerable families are in need of a compassionate care system from their local church. The same principles, systems, and models are easily adaptable to serve families with special needs, single parents, women facing unplanned pregnancies, families caring for elders with dementia, immigrants, those touched by natural disaster, and the list goes on.
CompaCareSM offers certificate training to interested persons that will walk them through launching this model of ministry within their church.
