Prayers for Your Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is a beautiful time of celebration when we gather with friends and family around the dinner table to be grateful. The house is warm with love, the food is extra delicious, and holiday cheer often abounds.

As wonderful as this celebration is, the value is in its ability to foster gratitude in our hearts for all that God has done. However, sometimes we lose sight of thanksgiving, often unintentionally, in the hustle and bustle of activity. As we approach this special holiday, take time to sit down and make a list of all the ways God has been good to you this year and how He answered prayer. Reflect on His goodness and give Him praise for His faithfulness.

In the meantime, here are exclamations of praise recorded in the Bible to fill your heart (and mouth) with thanksgiving!

Psalm 100 (NLT)

Shout with joy to the Lord, all the earth! Worship the Lord with gladness. Come before him, singing with joy. Acknowledge that the Lord is God! He made us, and we are his. We are his people, the sheep of his pasture. Enter his gates with thanksgiving; go into his courts with praise. Give thanks to him and praise his name. For the Lord is good. His unfailing love continues forever, and his faithfulness continues to each generation.”

Ephesians 5:18-20 (ESV)

“Be filled with the Spirit, addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart, giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Psalm 105:1-6 (MSG)

“Thank God! Pray to him by name!  Tell everyone you meet what he has done! Sing him songs, belt out hymns, translate his wonders into music! Honor his holy name with Hallelujahs, you who seek God. Live a happy life! Keep your eyes open for God, watch for his works; be alert for signs of his presence. Remember the world of wonders he has made, his miracles, and the verdicts he’s rendered—O seed of Abraham, his servant, O child of Jacob, his chosen.”

Psalm 69:30 (MSG)

“Let me shout God’s name with a praising song, let me tell his greatness in a prayer of thanks.”

Psalm 100:1-5 (MSG)

On your feet now—applaud God! Bring a gift of laughter, sing yourselves into his presence. Know this: God is God, and God, God. He made us; we didn’t make him. We're his people, his well-tended sheep. Enter with the password: ‘Thank you!’ Make yourselves at home, talking praise. Thank him. Worship him. For God is sheer beauty, all-generous in love, loyal always and ever.”

We pray you have a wonderful Thanksgiving with your family and friends, and that the goodness of God will abound in your life!
