Incredible Love
“Without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness” (Hebrews 9:22).
It's ludicrous to think that God would have gone to so much trouble to send His own Son, Jesus Christ, to suffer and die if there had been any other way to reconcile you and me to His heart and to restore the relationship that fell apart when Eve took that first bite.
And it's absurd to think that Jesus would have agreed to go through such torment had there been an easier path. . . . Why suffer disgrace and public ridicule, the cross and all its shame, if all that heaven required was enough good works on our part to outweigh the bad?
The answer is simple: Jesus came and died and rose again because the ransom had to be paid; the debt we owed had to be satisfied; the power of sin and death that ruled over humanity from the beginning of time had to be broken. But in order for that to happen, blood had to be spilled. For without it, there is no forgiveness of sin (Hebrews 9:22).
Only one spotless Lamb could satisfy the requirement. And only one Lion of Judah could break all our chains.
God is love. Oh yes, He is. But love is Jesus. And if we want one, we must accept the other. For until we walk through the doorway that Jesus opened on the cross, we will never find the center-of-God's-heart relationship we need and the incredible love for which we were made.
